Creative Communities CIC was established in 2010 to support residents in the Northwest, primarily with employment focussed training for disadvantaged and marginalized groups.

Creative Communities was formed as the charitable arm of Creative Training Limited, established in Liverpool in 2003. Since 2003 the Directors of Creative Training have supported thousands of people into employment in the Merseyside area through specialist intervention programmes using innovative methods.

In 2010 Creative Communities worked in partnership with Working Links and launched several community outreach programmes to support residents of Merseyside. The following projects aimed to engage residents of Merseyside in activities designed to enhance their knowledge, skills and abilities:

Creative Craft began the project in October 2010 with a view to engaging with local residents of Liverpool in order to build confidence and motivation to learn a new skill. Several men & women worked with tutors once per week over a six week period to learn the art of craft. Two courses were held: Creative Card Making and Cutting the Cost of Christmas.

Baby Dreams was an initiative designed to support parents in the Garston area of Liverpool. Using a unique programme over a 12 week period Baby Dreams provided an opportunity for parents to learn about infant development in an innovative and fun way. Just under 60 mums/carers were supported by this outreach initiative.

The Fittest Loser was launched in October 2010 to support residents to get fit and gain confidence in achieving goals. Within this outreach activity residents were able to learn about foundational fitness and healthy eating through practical activities. They also had the opportunity to experience goal setting and weight loss through supported exercise and healthy living advice.

Fit for Life used Zumba dance to engage with residents of Knowsley, Sefton and St Helens sometimes in partnership with schools and children’s centres. Again, creating goals and building confidence and motivation were outcomes of this successful and fun outreach activity.

Dad’s on the Move was created to support those nearer to the employment market who would find extra support useful to achieve their employment goals. Creative Communities support a number of men and women working in partnership with Involve Northwest to create video CVs using The Interview Room.

In 2011 Creative Communities hosted a Future Jobs Fund project known as the Community Postal Team. This project provided entry level vacancies for unemployed residents of Merseyside and Greater Manchester. The aim of the Community Postal Team was to provide a communication vehicle for local businesses to communicate their service to residents of the area thereby improving the health and well being of the residents and contributing to the improvement of the local economy. The CPT worked with local councils, NHS services, and the BBC among many other well known organisations to support delivery of their ‘message’ to the community. Many young people benefitted from this scheme, providing much needed work experience. A large proportion also gained an NVQ qualification.
